The origins of quantum mechanics, waves and particles.  Postulates in quantum mechanics. Solutions of Schrödinger equation for particle in a box, harmonic oscillator and H-atom. The structures of many electron atoms, atomic spectra. Introduction to MO theory and molecular structure. SCF method. Molecular rotations, vibrations and electronic transitions. Introduction tospectroscopy.

Prerequisite: CHEM 101, CHEM 102
